Southern California's breeding mommy's little monster

In two days I will be 18. My mother has been bugging me about what I want for my big birthday but I'm honestly not sure. However, I'm pretty excited to be able to do 18-year-old things. Like vote, legally purchase things from the television, play the lottery. Actually, I might end up purchasing a package of cigarettes so I can give them to the homeless people downtown who are always asking for one. I think it'd be nice to make somebody feel a little bit better. I've always believed that people in a situation like that deserve whatever the hell they want to momentarily escape reality.

Anyway, I've been feeling pretty sleepy about this season, if that makes any sense. Everything has been pretty relaxed and tired. Time has been moving sluggishly, but too quick for recognition. It's strange, really. But here's an outfit for this week. I've been rather obsessed with socks and tights lately.

Gosh I guess my writing is also a bit on the sleepy side too. I proofread this post and I sincerely hope I didn't bore you to death.

And we don't know just where our bones will rest. To dust, I guess.

Hello!

Gosh how I've missed you all.

Life can do some really strange things.

However, it hasn't all been too bad. I've come to know my first love in the time I've been gone. I've only dated one other person in my life. And I'm not sure I would call it dating. It was more like a "well I think you're kind of cool so let's kind of date or something" high school relationship. We never even surpassed the occasional hug. But anyway, my boyfriend has certainly been my first for nearly everything as far as relationships go. It's exciting and new and wonderful.

Anyway,
I haven't really kept up with the latest style trends. I've been much too engulfed in work, school, and my relationship. But I have been getting overwhelming 70's vibes. Which really goes nicely with fall weather- with all of the warm colors and whatnot. October is my favorite month of the year. Actually, it's the month of my birthday.

Also- I'm turning 18 on October 8th! It's somewhat difficult to believe sometimes. I remember starting this blog when I was just 16. I'd hate to get all reflect-y on you, but it's so interesting to think about what my life was like when I first started posting. When I first started posting, it was really the beginning of the end.

I've battled depression and anxiety since the 2nd grade, being prescribed Prozac at age 8. When I originally began posting, I turned to stealing Valium, alcohol, food restriction, and self harm. Sometimes, it's hard to believe. And I think I did a pretty good job of hiding that. Fashion was my distraction. And my blog was a reflection of that. Regardless, it's all behind me now. And it probably explains my lack of posting. I no longer need that distraction to function. I. Am. Free. Of course, I occasionally relapse into that all-too-familiar sickly depressed feeling, but I've survived it. And I'm glad to still have a family of bloggers to return to.

Thanks.

And all these demons, they keep me up all night

The new Blink-182 album is AMAZING. omg.

It's October! And you know what that means- Halloween! In other words, large supermarkets around the nation are stockpiling cheaply-made costumes to monetize the national holiday. Which ALSO means, awesome stockings for only three bucks! Good lord. I just love Halloween, don't you?

Anyway, I was fortunate enough to get compliments over nasty stares with this outfit. It seems that skeleton stockings are quite the ice breaker. In my opinion, they're the most lovely things I've ever seen. So it's nice to share the same opinion with so many other people.

Dress- Alice Temperley x Target, Skirt- random, Tights- Walmart, Shoes- Pierre Hardy x Gap, Unicorn necklace- Forever 21

I absolutely adore how these shoes sort of go along with the skeletal pattern on the tights.

HEY CHECK OUT THIS DEER I MADE IN SCULPTURE TODAY.

Probably one of my favorite outfits.

P.s. Did you know that my dad named his cat after Mazzy Star? Just a bit of random, but totally awesome information for you.

People moving sideways

SO MUCH RIDICULOUSNESS, SO LITTLE TIME.

Let me just say that My Chemical Romance is possibly the greatest band to ever live ever. They are endlessly inspiring and amazing and absolutely perfect in every way and I'm still in la la land after seeing them in concert on saturday. Also Blink-182. They were visually stunning on stage. Travis Barker was a beast and Mark Hoppus was an absolute clown. Oh- and Tom Delonge? He might just be my new hero.

Anyway,

Onward with ridiculousness!

My hips sway better than Mark Hoppus.

PROOF.

Tiara- Dollar Tree, Shirt- Thrifted, Shorts-Dollhouse, Socks- Journeys, Bullet belt- costume store, Boots- Nomi, Unicorn Necklace- Forever 21

This outfit is more so a product of my scattered brain over a product of my creative genius. I'm still high on post-concert buzz, so I'm really not quite sure what I'm doing at the moment.

Take this for example. Right after the My Chem set, I even confused the guy at the concession stand when I tried to order french fries. I started babbling some nonsense and throwing money in his direction. I will be forever grateful for the friends who cleared everything up for me and the concession man.

Call me up before you're dead. We can make some plans instead.

I'm really starting to miss my camera. CAMERA Y U NO COME BACK 2 ME?

So have any of you ever seen that movie, Girl Interrupted? If you haven't, I recommend that you do asap. I mean, COME ON. Winona Ryder is a total babe. I mean, if you're totally into that borderline personality disorder thing. And mental institutions. But you'll just have to see that for yourself.

I was totally in to the style that the patients had going on. The whole 60s vibe really had my mind going places.

jacket- Gap, skirt- hand-me-down, shoes- under my bed

I love this jacket to PIECES. I was so so so fortunate to get them on sale that one year.

Ta-da! Not much for tonight, folks. But I assure you that it will eventually be made up later with concert pictures and various other things that have nothing to do with this blog.

Cool to be you

Good news- I've finally figured out this damn webcam and put a self timer on it. So no more awkward crouching!

Anywho, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, which is really quite unusual for me. You know, about this whole adulthood thing? It's only days before I'm 17- just one year away from pure, legitimate, ADULTHOOD. And I've just been reflecting on my life thus far.

It's kind of weird, in a way. I feel like I've developed both mentally and creatively, yet I feel like I've regressed in the same sense. I mean, I've lost that sort of creative freedom that I had in middle school, for example, like all of the times that I would throw random shit together and call it an outfit. It was so great and fun. But now I've redefined the way that I look at myself. In a way, it's confusing. And I'm not quite sure what to think of it. But it's an adventure in itself and I can't wait to dive right into it.

So here's an outfit that reflects that old non-caring way of my childhood self.

Shirt- Gap, inside out skirt- I don't remember, socks- Little Miss Matched, Shoes- somewhere underneath my bed, Unicorn necklace- Forever 21

Guys, this necklace is my pride and joy.

It's funny finding all of my old mismatching knee-highs. I'm pretty sure that I started a sock collection in middle school at one point. And I don't even particularly enjoy wearing socks.

Everything Sux

I just lost my camera, so I've had to resort to the dreaded webcam outfit photos. It's a shame because I was really happy with this outfit in particular, but whatevs dude. Some people don't even have webcams to take pics in the first place. Bee tee dubs- did you see that Medham Kerchhoff collection? TO DIE FOR. I feel that it deserves a whole post for itself in the near future...

Anyway, I'm totes into that whole punk vibe thing. The thrashy, angsty music that turns kids against their parents, you know? In a sense, it's that sort of underground revolution that really attracts me to the music and style. While I'm still pretty new to the whole music scene, I'm pretty much here to stay. Anyway~

Yes, that's a unicorn necklace (This one's for you, Mikey Way.)

Descendents shirt- Hot Topic, Dollhouse shorts, DIY shredded fishnets, inside-out Betsey Johnson socks, Nomi Boots,
Forever 21 unicorn necklace

Okay, okay. It is hypocritical to to buy a "punk" shirt from Hot Topic. But it's the fucking Descendents
that we're talking about here. Speaking of which, they're playing in Chicago on my birthday and Chicago
is like dshajgktyr8i75ty5rysedf miles away from me and everything sucks just like that one Descendents
album title. SENSITIVE TEENAGE GIRL PROBLEMS.

Interview with Bella from Plastic Barrettes

I had the pleasure of interviewing the young, fresh, and super lovely Bella from the fashion blog, Plastic Barrettes. Below are the results!

What's your name?
My name is Bella

What inspired you to start blogging about fashion?
Well, I picked up a Teen Vogue in 2009, and I saw an interview with Tavi. A few days later, after tons of procrastinating I started my own fashion blog. Then I deleted it. Then I started another one. Then I deleted that one. Now, I have Prom Queen and Plastic Barrettes

Who's fashion blog has influenced your style the most?.
Tavi's blog Style Rookie and my friend Samantha's blog Fazed-Girl.

Who's your favorite designer?
I love Laura and Kate Mulleavy from Rodarte, Marc Jacobs, and Karl Lagerfeld.

How old are you again?
I'm thirteen!

What is one piece of clothing (or accessory) that you could never live without?
I don't think I could live without my Edward Scissorhands t-shirt, my pair of frilly socks, or my white clogs.

How did you become interested in feminism and how has it affected you?
I read the book Girl Power by Marisa Meltzer, but I had been a feminist before that. I think that it's made me read into things more.

On a lighter note, what's your favorite band?
I love The Killers, Purity Ring, Sleigh Bells, Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear, Hole, and Nirvana.

Thank you!
You're very welcome!

My props to a fellow feminist and Sleigh Bells lover! Anyway, if you haven't gotten the chance to do so, click here and go check out her blog.

Get a job, hippie slackers

Floral dresses and socks with platforms. Totally not stereotypical fashion blog garb. But the pinky flowers all over the dress is so cute, I don't even care. And dem shoes. I don't think you understand how hard I fought to get those.

floral dress I got at TJ Maxx, Pierre Hardy x Gap 3 strap platforms, white socks, rock necklace I made, quarter machine necklace

Basically a rock tied on to a leather cord.
Ignore that time stamp, too.

Pretty summer vibes, no?

Inspiration

Finally, a post without vague song lyrics. It's 1:30am and I'm too damn tired to care.

Onward, inspiration!

Androgyny!

Fruits!

Cluelessness!

Punks!

Cute girls!

Also~ Feminism! Perhaps something we should discuss later?

Hopefully this will inspire a series of outfit posts. I've got a couple of things floating around in my mind. Perhaps we'll see something interesting come together.

B-Film Born Invasion

Teenagers from Mars! And we don't care.

Ahhh. Finally a post that lives up to my name.
This time around, I decided to use my title as inspiration for an outfit. To me, that meant the awkwardness of being a teenager, mismatching patterns and colors, and a touch of 90s flair. Also, more awkwardness.

thrifted shirt, hand-me-down shorts, Target cardigan, quarter machine necklace

Pretty proud of my necklace purchase. It was only fifty cents.

Anyway, I'm convinced I hit it big time at my local good will. This shirt looks at least 15 years old and it's in great shape. Originally, it had shoulder pads, but I cut them off. They looked a bit wonky. And all of this for only two bucks. Greatest. Thing. Ever. I'm also pretty pleased to say that my glasses actually matched an outfit for once. Those poor glasses have been put through so much. I've had to super glue them back together 4 times now. Today was their day to shine! Ha.

Love always,
Hazel

With just a touch from my burning hand, I'm going to give my life to destroy your world.

Second post for the day waaaahhh.
Just thought I should post the outfit that's featured in my little profile picture on the left hand side. I posted it on Chictopia ages ago, but I think it would fit in nicely on my blog.

Alice Temperley x Target dress, random dress socks, random shoes I found under my bed

Remember when Target brought back 5 years of designer collaboration dresses? I was fortunate enough to snag this little Alice Temperley for only forty bucks! Super cute, amiright? This outfit's a bit darker than the usual, but I'm really pleased with it. Kind of goes along with this little horror movie obsession I'm feeling this summer.

So there you have it. The origins of my profile picture.

Enjoy!

Why can't you see you torture me?

If you know me, you know I can't live without some Lost Boys. Everything from the classic 80s hair to the bad-boy vampire gang. And the really bad special effects. Oh boy.

This really isn't something I should really be watching and eating ice cream with. I've been trying to get a bit healthier this summer and all of these great 80s flicks are really starting to get in the way of that... And that marathon of Lost... And that other marathon of Naruto....

Oops.

Allow me to point out their wonderful hair.

Oh Kiefer...

I know, I know. Beautiful, right?

Enjoy!
